Self-guided city trails
How self-guided city trails work.
Use the Uncommon Place map to find real locations, then reveal the story, character or activity waiting at each waypoint. There is no guide to keep up with and no group timetable.
Four simple stages
From the first map pin to the final stop.
Each trail has its own subject and route, but the way you follow it stays straightforward.
Choose a trail
Pick an experience for your location, interests and group.
1Follow the map
The app shows the waypoints that make up the route.
2Reach each location
Arrive at a waypoint to open its local story, character, fact or activity.
3Continue at your pace
Pause when you need to, then carry on to the next stop.
4Made for the place itself
Look up from the screen.
The map helps you reach the right spot, but the place provides the experience. A waypoint might introduce a piece of local history, reveal a seasonal character, point out a detail that is easy to miss or set a short activity connected to what is around you.
That format can support heritage walks, nature trails, festival routes and changing seasonal ideas. It also lets each trail explain its own opening times, route conditions and access information rather than making one promise for every experience.
Not every trail is a puzzle trail
City trails are built around discovery. Some may include a light challenge, but they do not require a master puzzle. If you want connected clues and a final answer, read how our puzzle trails work.
